Bin Design and Pneumatic Conveying (Presented in Canada and South America)
Seminar Outline Silos, hoppers, and feeders are some of the most troublesome areas in bulk solids handling. This seminar aims to provide a basic comprehension of problems and pitfalls facing the designer or purchaser of a storage system, and to outline strategies to ensure successful storage system installation. This seminar will not create "instant experts;" however, you will learn about common flow problems like arching, ratholing, segregation [220K QuickTime video], and the importance of flow properties in the successful design of bins. Even though pneumatic conveying systems have been designed and operated for many years, their successful operation is still more often based on experience rather than science. The lack of practical information on pneumatic conveyors leaves most users dependent on vendors for the design, selection, and installation of pneumatic conveying equipment. Attendees of this course will be shown the advantages and limitations of pneumatic conveying, types of systems (dilute and/or dense phase) and their basic components, minimum transport velocity and pressure loss calculations, and the selection of proper equipment for their needs.
