PRELIMINARY ENGINEERING FOR BULK SOLIDS PROJECTS
Decisions made during the preliminary engineering phase of a project are critically important for its success. If your bulk solids systems are not engineered from the outset to handle the unique characteristics of your materials, process start-up time can be significantly delayed and process design capacity may never be reached.
Preliminary engineering services such as on-site support, conceptual design, feasibility studies, and process modeling can reduce or eliminate risk with your engineering project.
On-site services
| |
- Site visit – troubleshooting of flow problems, collection of bulk solids process information, and development of project scope.
|
| |
- Process audit – engineering review of bulk solids handling system operation focusing on reliability, efficiency, safety, and product quality.
|
| |
- Structural inspection – site observations to assess existing conditions of bulk solids storage system structure and identify any structural issues.
|
| |
- Training – training on bulk solids handling and pneumatic conveying.
|
Conceptual design
Using the flow and particle properties of your material and the process requirements/ constraints, we develop conceptual recommendations for storage, feeding, and conveying equipment required to reliably handle your powder or bulk solids. Conceptual designs can be refined through functional design, which can then lead to detailed design and completion of the bulk solids engineering for the project.
Feasibility studies
Complex or unique bulk solids handling projects often require a feasibility study considering key factors of technology deployment, economics, operational stability, and product quality. Our skilled engineers can work with you to develop a scope of work necessary to achieve a scientifically-based, go-no go decision for a new bulk solids processing and handling application.
Process modeling
While standard tests are typically sufficient as a design basis, some unique bulk solids and/or novel applications may require process modeling. We can operate a pilot-scale model in our prototyping facility for testing of a conceptual design or for assessing technological feasibility of a complex process.
