The recent economic developments have resulted in a surge in many sectors of the mining industry. With the increased demand, comes the need for reliable material handling. Whether it is stockpiles, dump hoppers, ore-passes, surge bins or transfer points, proven, practical solutions are available to improve handling of ores and concentrates.

At the mine site, the run-of-mine (ROM) ore as well as crushed ore needs to be stored and reclaimed reliably, whereas at the processing plant, the concentrate needs to be fed reliably to furnaces or roasters. Moisture content, time of storage, particle size distribution can drastically alter the reliability of material flow through any handling system. Arching and ratholing will interrupt flow and increase the costs of any mining operation. Particle size segregation in stockpiles results in separation of fines and coarse, and can cause problems particularly when handling concentration of fines. Also, segregation may lead to problems in uniform feeding to roasters or furnaces.
