A typical plant within the scope of
an engineering firm's services involves numerous bulk solids
handling systems which include processing vessels, bins,
silos, hoppers, feeders, chutes and conveyors. Each bulk
solid has unique handling characteristics based on particle
size and shape, moisture/volatiles content, processing
temperatures, and storage time at rest. Handling problems
such as arching, ratholing, segregation and
degradation occur routinely when these material characteristics are not considered
in the design phase. Off-the-shelf solutions simply do not work for every application.
Engineering firms are typically multidisciplinary organizations of engineers, architects, scientists, and other specialists providing a full range of services to the power, process, industrial, and many other markets.
Jenike & Johanson has worked with engineering firms on both new processes and existing problems, providing the bulk solids handling expertise that can set them apart from their competition. As a member of the engineering team, we ensure that the bulk solids handling systems will perform as intended. We don't guess at solutions. We measure the flow properties of bulk solids to establish the handling requirements, then, working together with the engineering firm, we arrive at the most cost-effective solution.
