Power industry has been evolving as a result of recent economical, environmental and regulatory requirements. Changes such as cofiring biomass, installing FGD systems or switching to low-sulfur coals are commonly occurring. These changes have introduced new material handling challenges in bunkers, silos and stockpiles.
Handling biomass, lime, limestone, fly ash and synthetic gypsum can be challenging if a proper design approach is not followed. These materials can be poor-flowing leading to material handling issues. Apart from arching and ratholing, feeder discharge problems can occur. Similarly, low-sulfur sub-bituminous coals tend to be cohesive and frictional and may remain stagnant inside bunkers – extreme consequence of which can be spontaneous combustion.
Whether it’s coal, culm, gob, limestone or biomass, Jenike & Johanson helps power plants keep their bulk solids flowing reliably.
