BIO-FEEDSTOCKS FOR BIO-FUELS AND OTHER BIO-PRODUCTS
As efforts to create sustainable chemical processes intensify, facilities are turning to renewable bio-feedstocks for manufacture of fuels, plastics, and other products. Bio-feedstocks (a.k.a. biomass, biofuels) such as wood chips, sawdust, paper pulp, corn stalks, and switch grass are readily available, and utilizing such materials can offer significant economic and environmental benefits.
Handling bio-feedstocks, unfortunately, can be challenging due to the interlocking behavior of the traditionally non-uniform particles. Many bio-feedstocks are cohesive and thus prone to arching and ratholing in silos, bins, and hoppers. Such obstructions to flow can lead to process inefficiencies and equipment downtime. In addition, the bio-feedstock consistency can vary drastically, thereby increasing processing complexity.
If your plant is currently experiencing biomass handling difficulties, Jenike & Johanson can help you eliminate them. If you are switching from fossil-fuel based materials to a renewable feedstock or developing a new process for handling them, we can utilize our industry-leading technology to help you avoid production mishaps. Our key engineering services and typical project approach follow.
