BIOMASS, BIOFUELS & BIOFEEDSTOCKS
Handling and engineering for biofeedstocks (a.k.a. biomass, biofuels) such as wood chips, sawdust, paper pulp, corn stalks, and switch grass, can be challenging due to the interlocking behavior of the traditionally non-uniform particles. Many biomass feedstocks are cohesive and thus prone to arching and ratholing in silos, bins, and hoppers. Such obstructions to flow can lead to process inefficiencies and equipment downtime. In addition, the biofuel consistency can vary drastically, thereby increasing processing complexity.
